Saturday night was a showcase of some of South Beach’s finest up and coming bands at the Nowhere Lounge. Bands like Urban Rebel, Bajo Tregua and Broken Tenure rocked the stage along with 5 other bands at the special-event venue sponsored by MTV. Broken Tenure truly stole the show Saturday night with singer Luis Lugo’s thoughtful songwriting and growl on the microphone and Chris Rod’s tricky and entertaining drumming. Gonzo’s bass playing was right on, but a rock star like him definitely needs more space to entertain and lead guitarist Oscar Salazar’s solo’s sparkled especially after singer Luis exclaimed, “if you don’t like it, get the fuck out that door!” in their closing song, “Mister Dependent”.
Although Broken Tenure’s set was awesome, the real news of the night was the band’s signing to Universal-Republic (Big Machine). This label is home to artist such as Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw, so get ready for some big news from these guys soon! The four musicians of Broken Tenure are some of the best at their craft in Miami Beach and definitely deserve this contract. They will be touring all of Florida for the rest of the year and are heading to Puerto Rico in January for a month to record their début album with the record label. I look forward to hearing the recording of “Runaway” and “Mister Dependent”, these songs, in my opinion, truly have radio quality potential.
